The History of Ensign Emblem

Thirty years is a long time for anything.  Businesses, marriages, partnerships, relationships, etc., rarely reach the thirty year mark.  Ensign, however, has thirty years under its corporate belt.  It accomplished this remarkable tenure by embracing and promoting product consistency, professional ethics, and by treating their customers and their vendors (viewed as business partners) with respect and dignity.  Some say that statement is just a simple business motto; but if this were true, why do so many companies fail for those very reasons?  It should be noted that thirty years is only the time that Ensign’s been serving the Industrial Laundry market.  The Benjamin family, who founded the Ensign Group, has an even longer record of service in the Industrial Laundry Market, as they have been serving the industry for over fifty years.

The Ensign portion of the story goes something like this……

Ed Benjamin, the patriarch of the family, worked throughout his life serving the industry and the people, which he grew to love and admire.  His passion for service excellence was a driving force in founding Ensign Emblem, Ltd. in April of 1974.  Ed and his daughter Gayle established and headquartered their new company in Detroit, Michigan.  Gayle, fresh from college, joined her father in setting out to create a business that would not only meet the needs of their clients, but exceed their client’s expectations on a daily basis.  Gayle’s drive for perfection and Ed’s passion for excellence created the production force that remains at the heart of Ensign Emblem today.  In 1989, Ensign moved its flagship facility to Traverse City, located in Northern Michigan.  Ensign’s core business success has always been based on solid family values.  Anyone that has ever been to Traverse City would immediately understand why the family chose the location for its new headquarters. It’s simply a wonderful place to live and raise a family.

During Ensign’s first nineteen years of business, it had grown to become recognized as the regional leader in embellishment products and services.  Then in 1993, Ed decided it was time to retire and sold his share of the Company’s stock to Gayle, who assumed the position of Company President.  Gayle immediately initiated her strategic expansion plan to position Ensign as a national service provider.  In April of 1993, Ensign opened its Lawrenceville plant, located just outside Atlanta, Georgia.  The full service production operation was an immediate success, leading the way for the opening of the Decatur, Illinois plant in April of 1994.  Under Gayle’s leadership, the company grew and as her plan came together, Ensign opened its fourth production facility in February of 1997 in Reno, Nevada.  By this point, Ensign was recognized as the only embellishment service company operating four fully functional production facilities in the United States.  In August of 2002, the Reno plant was moved to Los Angeles, California, to better accommodate Ensign’s growing list of satisfied clients throughout the western United States.

Ensign is considered by many to be the best overall company when it comes to product quality, service excellence and on-time delivery.  Ensign’s production facilities cumulatively account for the most allocated production space in the Industry, easily exceeding that of their competitors.  Ensign is also touted as the only company to consistently exceed 98% on-time delivery ratios.  This number is based on stated delivery times as set by Ensign Customers.  You’ll find that most of Ensign’s customers never experience anything less than 100% service delivery.

Under Gayle Zreliak’s direction, Ensign is nationally recognized as an Industry Leader.  Her belief and commitment to her customers, her employees and her family, are one in the same.  She places her name and reputation on every product and service offered by Ensign.  The past thirty years have offered the Ensign Team the distinct privilege to be of service to their incredible group of customers.

The Team at Ensign looks forward to the next 30-years of Exceptional Service!
